ARS 120

Students with approved academic suspension appeals will be enrolled in, and are required to complete, ARS 120: Academic Connections in Education (ACE). Components of the program focus on establishing strong connections between students and the resources around them including an assigned Academic Recovery coach, their course instructors, and the tools at their disposal.

Together with their Academic Recovery coach, ARS 120 students will identify strategies for success and build a support network on campus. The academic connections students build throughout the semester will be a valuable component of their individual UNCG support network and a critical part of their academic recovery journey.

Students in ARS 120 will engage in one-on-one coach meetings with an Academic Recovery coach in addition to online coursework. Students will also select one of the pre-selected campus resources to use throughout the semester to aid in their academic and personal success.

If you have an academic suspension appeal approved, you will be required to complete ARS 120. As a part of your Academic Suspension requirements, you must actively participate and successfully complete all components of the course. If you have questions about your standing or program eligibility, please contact [email protected].

To save you time and effort, the Students First Office will enroll all students required to take ARS 120 prior to the start of classes in the fall and spring terms. The course will appear on your Canvas page.

The course begins on the first day of classes each fall and spring term. You are strongly encouraged to log into the course on Canvas on the first day of class, print and review the course syllabus, and begin completing your course assignments. ARS 120 starts during the first week of the semester and continues throughout the full fifteen-week term.

ARS 120 is considered a hybrid course, which means in addition to online assignments, students will be required to attend in-person or virtual meetings with their assigned academic recovery coach throughout the semester.

ARS 120 is a coaching-based course that spans the entire semester. Students are assigned an academic recovery coach who they must meet with at least 2 times throughout the semester. There are also online assignments that will be completed via Canvas. You must complete all assignments by the due date(s) listed on the syllabus. ARS 120 is a P (pass), NP (no pass) course. Failure to complete all required assignments and coach meetings will result in a grade of NP for the course.

ARS 120 is worth zero credits, which means that it does not alter your cost of attendance. Your final grade in ARS 120 (P or NP) will not impact your GPA.

Failure to meet all ARS 120 requirements will result in a grade of “NP” (not passing) and may also result in Academic Dismissal from UNCG. As you progress through the semester, please ensure you manage your time accordingly, stay in contact with your assigned Academic Recovery coach and actively engage in each scheduled meeting and assignment. As a student on Academic Suspension, you are expected to meet the terms of your suspension status or restore Academic Good Standing. Failure to meet these requirements will result in Academic Dismissal from UNCG. In rare circumstances, you may encounter unexpected and extenuating circumstances that significantly inhibit your ability to meet the parameters of your probationary status. When situations like this arise, you may want to consider appealing your Academic Dismissal.

Following Academic Dismissal, students must complete the Return from Academic Dismissal Appeal process prior to reapplying to the university through the former student application with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
