I know I’m returning from Academic Dismissal but do I have to participate in the ARS 140 Program?
Yes. To support your academic recovery, University policy requires students with an approved Dismissal Appeal or an approved Returning from Academic Dismissal Appeal to enroll in the program. As a part of your Academic Dismissal requirements, you are asked to actively participate and successfully complete all components of the program. If you have questions about your standing or program eligibility, please contact the Students First Office.
Who will contact me about participating in the ARS 140 Program?
If you have an approved Returning from Academic Dismissal Appeal and have been readmitted to the University, Undergraduate Admissions will email you with details regarding your probationary requirements. Alternatively, if you submitted an approved academic appeal, the Students First Office will contact you via your UNCG email account with details on participating in the ARS 140 program. All students who are required to participate will also receive a follow-up email from the program coordinator, which will provide you details about the ARS 140 program, the contact information for your Academic Recovery team member along with important information regarding program expectations. If at any time you have questions about your participation, please contact the Students First Office.
Where do I go if I have questions about the ARS 140 Program?
The Students First Office is here to support you in your academic recovery. If you have already been assigned an Academic Recovery coach your coach is your first and best resource for questions about the program. If you have not been assigned a team member you can email [email protected].
When does the ARS 140Program begin?
The Program begins during the first week of the semester and continues throughout the term. Before the start of term, you will receive an email via your UNCG email account with details about the program, contact information for your Academic Recovery coach, along with important information regarding program expectations.
What are the requirements for the ARS 140 Program?
During your first semester back at UNCG, you will meet with your Academic Recovery coach a minimum of four (4) times to provide you with the accountability and support you need to achieve your academic goals. Your Academic Recovery coach will assist you with realizing your strengths, reconnecting to University resources, implementing University policies, creating a professional and academic support network, and developing a plan for future academic goals. To learn more details about the program requirements, visit the ARS 140 program page on the SFO website.
What happens if I do not complete the ARS 140 Program requirements?
ARS 140 provides you a number of opportunities throughout the semester to complete the program requirements with ease and success. As you progress through the semester, please ensure you stay in contact with your Academic Recovery coach, attend each scheduled appointment and follow through on your academic responsibilities. You can always reach out to us if you have questions about the fulfillment of the program requirements. Failure to meet all ACT Program requirements can result in Academic Dismissal from UNCG.
I completed all of the ARS 140 Program requirements, but I did not meet GPA requirements. Now what?
As a student returning from Academic Dismissal, you are expected to meet the terms of your probationary status or restore Academic Good Standing. Failure to meet these requirements will result in your Academic Dismissal from UNCG.
I’m being academically dismissed because I didn’t meet the ARS 140 Program and/or GPA requirements. Where do I go from here?
Academic Dismissal prohibits students from enrolling at UNCG for a minimum of one academic year before they may appeal for permission to return to the University. If this is your second academic dismissal, it is extremely rare that a second Return from Dismissal Appeal is approved. However, you are still permitted to submit a request for consideration.
In your Return from Academic Dismissal Appeal, you must be able to show evidence of significant changes that will increase your likelihood of academic success since your last enrollment. You may want to consider changing your major, taking classes at a community college, or other strategies to address the academic difficulty you have experienced in the past.
If your Return from Academic Dismissal Appeal is approved, you must also meet the re-admission requirements set by Undergraduate Admissions and successfully complete an online Former Student Application by all posted deadlines.
