Understanding Withdrawal Grades

As UNCG transitions to the new Withdrawal Policy in Fall 2014, you may notice a few different grades on your transcript to denote withdrawals. Below you will find a description of these codes along with a summary of how the withdrawal grade may affect your attempted hours, tuition surcharge, academic standing, financial aid, and GPA calculation.

W Grade Description What it affects
W Course withdrawal for students who began at UNCG prior to Fall 2014 Satisfactory academic progress, financial aid, tuition surcharge
WX Any course withdrawal that counts toward the 16 hour limit for students who began at UNCG in Fall 2014 or later. Academic standing calculations, Satisfactory academic progress, financial aid, attempted hours, tuition surcharge
WT Any course withdrawal that is part of a Total University Withdrawal that is made prior to the drop date for students who began at UNCG in Fall 2014 or later. Satisfactory academic progress, financial aid, tuition surcharge
WE Any course withdrawal that has been approved through the Course Withdrawal Request process for students who began at UNCG in Fall 2014 or later. Satisfactory academic progress, financial aid, tuition surcharge
WM Any course withdrawal that is part of a Military Withdrawal Financial aid
WF Any course withdrawal made after the last day to withdraw without incurring a WF grade (withdrawal failing) that calculates as an “F” in the GPA Satisfactory academic progress, financial aid, attempted hours, tuition surcharge, GPA calculation
