University Withdrawal

Course Withdrawal Requiring Administrative Override

Students are able to initiate a withdrawal from a course or courses in UNCGenie until the last day to withdraw from classes without incurring a WF grade (withdrawal failing). While this date is typically the Friday of the 8th week of classes in the fall and spring semesters, students should refer to the current Academic Calendar for specific dates.

If you began at UNCG in fall 2014 or later and you attempt to withdraw from more than 33% of your semester hours, you will not be permitted to complete the withdrawal in UNCGenie as this would put you in violation of the University’s Academic Standing policy. If you would like to proceed with a course withdrawal that will cause you to drop below a 67% completion rate of your semester hours, you will need to meet with an academic advisor in the Students First Office to request an administrative override.

How the Administrative Override Process Works

To begin the administrative override process, call the Students First Office at (336) 334-5730 to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor. If you attempted to withdraw from the course(s) on UNCGenie, you should initiate this appointment within two (2) business days of your attempt.

During your appointment, you will:

  • Learn about any potential academic and financial consequences that will result from proceeding with your course withdrawal
  • Discuss the many campus resources that will be beneficial if you decide to stay enrolled in the course
  • Make a final decision on whether or not you still wish to proceed with your course withdrawal and will sign a consent form

If you decide to proceed with your course withdrawal, the date recorded for the withdrawal will be decided by the following:

  • If you initiated the course withdrawal in UNCGenie and contacted the Students First Office to schedule an appointment within two (2) business days, your withdrawal will be recorded as of the original date you attempted to withdraw from the course.
  • If you initiated the course withdrawal in UNCGenie and did not contact the Students First Office to schedule an appointment within two (2) business days, your withdrawal will be recorded as of the date you contacted the Students First Office.
  • If you did not initiate the course withdrawal in UNCGenie, your withdrawal will be recorded as of the date you contacted the Students First Office.
