I know I’m on academic warning, but do I have to participate in the ARK Program? Who will contact me about participating in the ARK Program? At the end of each semester, the University Registrar’s Office notifies all students on Academic Warning about their current academic standing and the need to participate in the ARK Program. This notification is sent to your UNCG email account. At the start of the next semester, you will begin receiving ARK bi-weekly emails. If at any time you have questions about your participation, reach out to us via phone, email, or in person. Where do I go if I have questions about the ARK Program? When does the ARK Program begin? What are the requirements for the ARK Program? I completed all of the ARK Program requirements but am concerned about my academic standing. How do I determine what my Academic Standing will be? I know I’m on Academic Probation but do I have to participate in the ARS 100: Reclaim, Regain, and Recover? How do I enroll in ARS 100: Reclaim, Regain, and Recover? To save you time and effort, the Students First Office will enroll all students on Academic Probation in a section of ARS 100: Reclaim, Regain, and Recover prior to the start of classes in the upcoming term and conclude enrollment on the 10th day of classes.. The course will appear on your Canvas course listings. To access the course, simply log into Canvas and get started. Where do I go if I have questions about the course? The Students First Office is here to support you in your academic recovery. Assistance is available by phone and in-person appointments. You may also email ars100@uncg.edu for questions pertaining to ARS 100. When does ARS 100: Reclaim, Regain, and Recover course begin? The course begins on the first day of classes each semester. You are strongly encouraged to log into the course on the first day of class, print and review the course syllabus, and begin completing your course assignments. What are the requirements for the ARS 100: Reclaim, Regain, and Recover? ARS 100 is a self-guided, online course that spans throughout the entire semester. Please note that each module will have an independent open and close date (details are provided on the course schedule). Within the open and close dates, modules can be started and stopped at any time for your convenience. You must complete all modules before the close date(s) based on the syllabus. It is recommended to earn a 80-100% on each module to achieve the P (passing grade). Failure to complete the modules will result in a grade of NP (not passing) for the course. To learn more details about the program requirements, visit the ARS 100 course page on the SFO website. What if I miss a course assignment? Can I turn in my assignment late? Please refer to the course syllabus late work section or contact the course instructor at ars100@uncg.edu How do I know if I’ve earned a passing grade for the course? Mastery of content is a requirement of this course, which is defined as earning 80-100% on each module assessment. Students will have an opportunity to practice skills before beginning the assessment and retake the assessment if needed. Students can either earn a P (passing) grade for 80-100% course completion or NP (not passing) for completion of 0-79% of course content. As stated in the UNCG Academic Standing Policy, students who earn a grade of NP will be academically suspended from UNCG for the following term because of failure to complete the requirements of their Academic Probation. How many credits is this class worth? ARS 100 is worth zero credits, which means that it does not alter your cost of attendance. Also, it neither helps nor hurts your GPA. I completed all of the ARS 100: Reclaim, Regain, and Recover requirements but I did not but I did not meet GPA requirements. Now what? As a student on Academic Probation, you are expected to meet the terms of your probationary status or restore Academic Good Standing. Failure to meet these requirements will result in your Academic Suspension from UNCG. Following your Academic Suspension, students must reapply to the university through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. I’m being Academically Suspended. Where do I go from here? Academic Suspension prohibits students from enrolling at UNCG for a minimum of one semester (fall or spring) before they may apply to return to UNCG. In rare circumstances, you may encounter unexpected and extenuating circumstances that significantly inhibit your ability to meet the parameters of your probationary status. When situations like this arise, you may want to consider appealing your Academic Suspension. If you wish to return to the University after Academic Suspension, you are required to meet re-admission requirements set by Undergraduate Admissions and successfully complete an online Former Student Application and meet with an Academic Recovery team member upon return. If you find that you are suspended from the University, the staff in the Students First Office are available to assist you in planning for your time away from UNCG and return to the University. I’m returning from Academic Suspension. Do I have to participate in the ARS 120? Yes. To support your academic recovery, University policy requires students returning from Academic Suspension OR with an approved Academic Suspension appeal to participate in the program. As a part of your Academic Suspension requirements, you must actively participate and successfully complete all components of the course. If you have questions about your standing or program eligibility, please contact the Students First Office. How will I be enrolled in ARS 120? The Students First Office will begin enrolling students in ARS 120 one week prior to the start of classes each fall or spring term and conclude enrollment on the 10th day of classes. The course will appear in your Canvas listings. Additionally, students will receive a follow-up email from the course instructor with important information regarding course expectations. If at any time you have questions about your participation, reach out to the Students First Office via phone, email, or in person. What type of coursework can I expect from ARS 120? ARS 120 is considered a hybrid course, which means in addition to online assignments, students will be required to attend in-person meetings as assigned throughout the semester. There is also a web-based section of ARS 120 available for students who are exclusively distance learning. How is ARS 120 graded? How many credits is it worth? Students enrolled in ARS 120 will earn a grade of either “P” (passing) or “NP” (not passing) at the end of the term. A grade of “P” denotes that students satisfactorily completed all course components. Failure to meet all ARS 120 requirements will result in a grade of “NP” (not passing), and may also result in Academic Dismissal from UNCG. ARS 120 is worth zero credits, which means it neither helps nor hurts your GPA. It also does not alter your cost of attendance. Where do I go if I have questions about ARS 120? ARS 120 starts during the first week of the semester and continues throughout the full fifteen-week term. What are the requirements for the course? In ARS 120, you are required to attend one-on-one sessions with your assigned Academic Recovery coach in addition to other online and face-to-face assignments. Students in the web-based section of ARS 120 complete online modules with frequent outreach and feedback from an Academic Recovery coach. Components of the program focus on academic recovery strategies such as faculty connections, university resources, peer support, and more! Failure to meet all ARS 120 requirements will result in a grade of “NP” (not passing) and may also result in Academic Dismissal from UNCG. As you progress through the semester, please ensure you manage your time accordingly, stay in contact with your assigned Academic Recovery coach and actively engage in each scheduled session and assignment. You may always reach out to the instructor if you have questions about the fulfillment of the program requirements. As a student returning from Academic Suspension, you are expected to meet the terms of your probationary status or restore Academic Good Standing Failure to meet these requirements will result in your Academic Dismissal from UNCG. I’m being academically dismissed because I didn’t meet the ARS 120 and/or GPA requirements. Where do I go from here? Academic Dismissal prohibits students from enrolling at UNCG for a minimum of one academic year before they may request permission to return to the University by submitting a Return from Dismissal Appeal and a Former Student Application. In rare circumstances, you may encounter unexpected and extenuating circumstances that significantly inhibit your ability to meet the parameters of your probationary status. When situations like this arise, you may want to consider appealing your Academic Dismissal. If you wish to return to the University after your Academic Dismissal, you are required to meet re-admission requirements set by Undergraduate Admissions and successfully complete an online Former Student Application. Additionally, you must also petition the Students First Office for permission to return to the University by submitting a Return from Academic Dismissal Appeal. The staff in the Students First Office are available to assist you in planning for your time away from UNCG and the return from dismissal appeal process. I know I’m returning from Academic Dismissal but do I have to participate in the ARS 140 Program? Yes. To support your academic recovery, University policy requires students with an approved Dismissal Appeal or an approved Returning from Academic Dismissal Appeal to enroll in the program. As a part of your Academic Dismissal requirements, you are asked to actively participate and successfully complete all components of the program. If you have questions about your standing or program eligibility, please contact the Students First Office. Who will contact me about participating in the ARS 140 Program? If you have an approved Returning from Academic Dismissal Appeal and have been readmitted to the University, Undergraduate Admissions will email you with details regarding your probationary requirements. Alternatively, if you submitted an approved academic appeal, the Students First Office will contact you via your UNCG email account with details on participating in the ARS 140 program. All students who are required to participate will also receive a follow-up email from the program coordinator, which will provide you details about the ARS 140 program, the contact information for your Academic Recovery team member along with important information regarding program expectations. If at any time you have questions about your participation, please contact the Students First Office. Where do I go if I have questions about the ARS 140 Program? The Students First Office is here to support you in your academic recovery. If you have already been assigned an Academic Recovery coach your coach is your first and best resource for questions about the program. If you have not been assigned a team member you can email ars140@uncg.edu. When does the ARS 140Program begin? The Program begins during the first week of the semester and continues throughout the term. Before the start of term, you will receive an email via your UNCG email account with details about the program, contact information for your Academic Recovery coach, along with important information regarding program expectations. What are the requirements for the ARS 140 Program? During your first semester back at UNCG, you will meet with your Academic Recovery coach a minimum of four (4) times to provide you with the accountability and support you need to achieve your academic goals. Your Academic Recovery coach will assist you with realizing your strengths, reconnecting to University resources, implementing University policies, creating a professional and academic support network, and developing a plan for future academic goals. ARS 140 provides you a number of opportunities throughout the semester to complete the program requirements with ease and success. As you progress through the semester, please ensure you stay in contact with your Academic Recovery coach, attend each scheduled appointment and follow through on your academic responsibilities. You can always reach out to us if you have questions about the fulfillment of the program requirements. Failure to meet all ACT Program requirements can result in Academic Dismissal from UNCG. I completed all of the ARS 140 Program requirements, but I did not meet GPA requirements. Now what? As a student returning from Academic Dismissal, you are expected to meet the terms of your probationary status or restore Academic Good Standing. Failure to meet these requirements will result in your Academic Dismissal from UNCG. I’m being academically dismissed because I didn’t meet the ARS 140 Program and/or GPA requirements. Where do I go from here? Academic Dismissal prohibits students from enrolling at UNCG for a minimum of one academic year before they may appeal for permission to return to the University. If this is your second academic dismissal, it is extremely rare that a second Return from Dismissal Appeal is approved. However, you are still permitted to submit a request for consideration. In your Return from Academic Dismissal Appeal, you must be able to show evidence of significant changes that will increase your likelihood of academic success since your last enrollment. You may want to consider changing your major, taking classes at a community college, or other strategies to address the academic difficulty you have experienced in the past. If your Return from Academic Dismissal Appeal is approved, you must also meet the re-admission requirements set by Undergraduate Admissions and successfully complete an online Former Student Application by all posted deadlines.
