Students will fall on Academic Warning if they earn less than 67% of their attempted semester hours but successfully maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher, as required by the UNCG’s Academic Standing Policy.  Academic Warning is intended to inform students that failure to earn credit for their enrolled courses over time will eventually impact their timeline to graduation and Financial Aid eligibility.

Students do not earn semester hours when a course is withdrawn, failed, repeated (when prior credit was earned), and when an instructor posts an incomplete grade or does not report a grade.

If students find themselves on Academic Warning, they will need to complete the following requirements:

FAQs

Successfully earn 67% or more of your semester hours in your term of Academic Warning results in restoration of Academic Good Standing. Failure to earn 67% of your semester hours will result in continuing Academic Warning for another semester until you reach that benchmark. You can read more about the Academic standing policy in the University Catalog.

Please note that anytime your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, you will be placed on Academic Probation, regardless of your semester hours completion rate.

Academic Warning is separate from (but closely related to) Financial Aid’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy and Financial Aid Warning. For Academic Standing, the semester hour completion is calculated at the conclusion of each semester based on the student’s enrollment that term alone. Students who do not earn 67% of their semester hours that term will be placed on Academic Warning.

For Financial Aid, the semester-hour completion rate is calculated cumulatively, over the entirety of a student’s college career. In most cases, students will encounter Academic Warning before they encounter Financial Aid Warning.

Academic warning does not prevent a student from graduating if all degree requirements are met. However, it is reflected on a student’s official academic transcript.
