What We Do

The Students First Office (SFO) fosters a learner-centered experience for undergraduate success by serving as one of the first lines of response in helping UNCG students address any number of academic issues they may experience at the University. The office coordinates intervention processes across different academic and administrative units to help students determine the best possible success strategies for addressing academic concerns. SFO serves as the designated advising center for all Exploratory (undecided) students at UNCG, supports students in academic recovery, and offers one-stop-shop supplemental advising assistance.  SFO is committed to providing students with the access and opportunity to achieve their greatest academic potential during their time at UNCG. 

Exploratory Academic Advising

SFO is the designated advising center for Exploratory Majors. Exploratory majors are students still unsure of their educational plan. These students work closely with an Exploratory Majors Academic Advisor by meeting at least twice per term to discuss interests and goals as they work towards declaring a major. Academic Recovery Support

The Academic Recovery Team works to support students whose performance falls short of the University standards for Academic Good Standing, also known as academic recovery.  Students in academic recovery receive support based on their academic standing, including email outreach, required ARS coursework, and coach meetings to promote academic growth and success.
