SFO offers quick drop-in assistance to any undergraduate student at UNCG regardless of major for supplemental academic advising assistance, such as academic and financial aid appeal assistance, major/minor exploration, withdrawal discussions, or assistance with academic policies and procedures.

Drop-In Hours

Drop-in assistance is available in person (in Forney 101) or virtually (via the link below) and the following times:

Monday 1:00-4:00pm

Wednesday 1:00-4:00pm

Thursday 1:00-4:00pm

*Virtual kiosk is open for students to check in from 12:45pm to 3:45pm*

Drop-In Reminders

  • Drop-ins are limited to 15 minutes per student
  • Drop-ins are first come, first serve basis and there is often a wait to be seen. Please be patient!
  • You can calculate your wait time by multiplying the number of students in line ahead of you by 20 minutes (Ex: 3 students x 20 min each = 1 hour wait)
  • Advising codes cannot be released during drop-ins
  • Graduation plans cannot be signed during drop-ins
  • Ensure your name in zoom matches your name in Starfish

Sign In for Drop-Ins

Enter your student ID number and last name (as it appears in your UNCG records) at the link below and complete the prompts on each page until you reach the confirmation page. The confirmation page will display the drop-in link, so please be ready to copy it to access the virtual waiting room.

Having Trouble Checking In?

  • Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after your student ID number or last name.
  • If that doesn’t work, log into Starfish and enter your last name exactly as it appears there.

Former Students and Prospective Students

If you are a former or prospective student, you may find you are unable to check in at the link above. If you attempt to check in and encounter problems, please send us a webchat, email ([email protected]), or give us a call (336-334-5730) so we can assist!

Drop-In FAQs

The drop-in link will be provided for you on the last page of the check-in kiosk, so be ready to grab the link when you are checking in! If you missed the link on the confirmation page, try checking-in again and the link will be provided to you once more.

The wait that Starfish calculates in the kiosk is not an accurate estimate. To calculate your wait time, multiply the number of people in front of you by 20 minutes.

  • If you are not in the waiting room when it is your turn for a drop-in, the advisor will be forced to move on to the next student in line.
  • If you access the Teams waiting room but did not officially check in through Starfish, you will not be pulled into the Teams meeting.
  • Please also check that your teams  name is your actual name so the advisor knows who to pull in. Click here to learn how to change your screen name.

If it is during SFO’s normal drop-in hours and you are unable to check-in for drop-ins, that means the check-in has been turned off because drop-ins are full for the day. Please see the drop-in schedule above and return at your earliest convenience or call us at (336) 334-5730 to schedule an appointment.

Advisors are not able to provide advising codes during drop-ins meetings. You must schedule an appointment to meet with your assigned advisor to obtain your code. If you are an Exploratory major, you must schedule an appointment with your assigned advisor through Starfish. For all other majors, contact your assigned academic advisor or advising center for guidance on appointment scheduling.

Our advisors are happy to help you get started on creating your graduation plan during drop-ins by providing a tutorial but our advisors are not able to sign off graduation plans during drop-in meetings.

If you have already created a graduation plan and you need to have it reviewed by an advisor, simply email it to [email protected]. An advisor will get back to you within three business days.

Please note the Students First Office can not sign off on graduation plans for the following majors: Bryan School of Business majors, CVPA majors, International and Global Studies, Environmental Studies, Professional Studies Online (formerly BIPS) and Liberal Studies
